Italian food with a difference

If your idea of an Italian restaurant is a cozy, dark, underground spot with the usual pizza and pasta menu, Vapiano might come as somewhat of a surprise.   Vapiano is actually a German chain, which offers Italian pasta, antipasta, salads and pizzas in a modern, stylish, and budget friendly way – located in Stockholm’s upmarket Östermalm area. (across the street from the Humlegarden park).

Don’t be put off by the red carpet rolled out at the entrance, trendy Vapiano offers Italian food at a price that fits every wallet. But what makes this place really stand out is the way they prepare the food – pizza, pasta or salad – in front of you. The pasta menu offers a good choice of dishes – for vegetarians and meat/fish lovers – grouped into price categories ranging from around SEK 75 to SEK 140. Choose from around six different types of pasta, including wholemeal or white pasta, then watch your ingredients being blended together. A nice touch is the pots on the tables of fresh herbs which you can use to garnish your food. There’s also a bar where you can get anything from an espresso coffee to wines and beers. When you purchase something simply swipe your card and pay when leaving.

One word of advice – be prepared for long queues at peak times! Even if there are only five people in front of you, the queues move at a snail’s pace. It’s worth sticking it out but just make sure you’re not starving or in a rush.
